Demand Response: use less, go green, get paid

In the context of Energy Transition and with renewable energy increasingly flowing into European Electricity grids, suppliers and consumers are  facing a changing energy landscape. It is a challenging evolution as it implies new approaches to grid balancing. It triggers the need for efficient and sustainable solutions placing the consumer at the heart of priorities. With Demand Response, Global Energy provides one of these solutions and offers you to enter into a green and cash rewarding partnership.

All eyes on consumption for high wins

Engie-Global-Energy-demand-rresponse2Global Energy is part of the ENGIE Group which ambitions to be the European leader of Energy Transition. With one of the most diversified energy mix in Europe and with 22% of its power capacity coming from renewable resources, the Group has been fully prepared to lead that move. The Group is focusing its research and innovation on energy that emits no, or low levels of, greenhouse gases, and on the reduction of energy consumption through  consumer-oriented solutions and energy efficiency services.

At Global Energy, we actively work on creating and promoting such services. Demand Response is part of them. It consists in helping our clients change their consumption patterns against financial rewards.

But why look at consumption? Because it creates new opportunities in the scope of a changing energy landscape.

The paradigm shift

Indeed, since Energy Transition has come in the picture, the traditional approach to balancing the electricity grid has become insufficient.

To maintain a constant match between demand and supply – and given that electricity cannot be stored yet – production needs to mirror at all times the evolution of the consumption needs. This can require extra power plants to tackle peak consumption periods. With the requirements of Energy transition and renewable energy flowing into the grid, power production needs to adapt to a new reality.

The Grid’s Green Challenge

DR_3When green energy is produced, it flows in priority into the grid. But it is an intermittent production, as it relies in particular on wind, sun or cloud coverage; parameters that are uneasy to predict with constant accuracy. To avoid over or under capacity issues, the need has emerged for more flexibility in terms of volume and for more reactivity, meaning to switch on or off power plants in a very responsive mode.

Using fast reacting back-up power plants cannot be the only alternative. It may have an impact on the environmental footprint; it also has a cost, with potential consequences on power prices for consumers.

For this reason, it has become necessary to adapt the supply-demand dynamic and develop green and cost-effective alternatives. Demand response is right in line to meet these new needs.Check in and get financial wins

An easy, green and financially rewarding solution, this is what Global Energy can provide you to help you make the most of your energy.

Demand Response (DR) has existed in integrated electricity systems for quite a while, but it was not applicable to all industrial clients and technology was insufficient to create proven value. Technologies such as computer-based, automated, remote control systems, and evolutions in market mechanisms have given a totally new dimension to Demand Response.
It is a new world of opportunities for a large panel of industrial clients.

Demand Response consists in changing your consumption patterns. But how?

DR_4By first identifying which processes in your company are flexible in terms of energy needs at certain determined periods.

Once we know which part of your consumption can be (partly) curtailed, i.e. your  so-called flexibility, we can offer to return part of it to the grid at determined periods. By doing so, you will get major benefits: you will turn your flexibility into Euros and act green.

But not only. With DR, we shift towards a new relationship: you and us are no longer customer and supplier standing at both ends of the energy chain.

We become key partners of energy efficiency. And you turn your consumer needs into prosumer wins.
